This photographic project was commissioned to honour and bring visibility to the community served by St Kilda Gatehouse.

Inspired by the genre of paranormal photography, the work captures moments and places as if revisited by an invisible presence. These images serve as imagined environmental portraits of subjects who, in many ways, remain unseen.

It’s difficult to fully comprehend another person’s life without direct experience—what we perceive is often just a surface representation of their reality. Unless we are moved by specific facts, stories, or encounters, we remain passive observers in each other’s lives. Art, through its abstract ideas and metaphors, can bridge this distance, offering glimpses into worlds beyond our own constructed narratives.

These photographs function as visual testimonies, drawn from the recollections, experiences, and places often traversed by an individual who remains anonymous and unacknowledged. The ordinary, familiar scenes depicted suggest a deeper, psychological landscape—one that hints at the presence of someone yearning to be seen.
