Black Market

Queen Victoria Markets’ adjoining car park sits over Melbourne’s first cemetery. Knowing this gives the place another dimension, especially on the days when the market is dormant and hessian and plastic tarpaulins cover the stalls, like an eerie tribute to what’s underneath.

I’m picturing the market in these non-trading days as a place after life (post-utilisation) a study of decay and silence where you wonder what’s inside and under things and how they appeared before being covered up or gone.
